The building hosts all the administrative functions of Regione Lombardia and is made of 6 Cores, 5 of which are about 40m tall. The Tower, Core 1, is 161.3m tall. The structural system is entirely made of reinforced concrete columns and reinforced concrete reduced-weight slabs. At the top, a lightweight steel structure (2 storeys high) covers a public space used for events and ceremonies. The Tower has a total of 42 storeys.
A steel truss structure supporting ETFE cushions covers the inner plaza and sets the record as the largest covered plaza in Europe, with a surface of 4.200m2.
Prof. Mola served as the structural designer for the Tower, the lower cores, the roof structure of the plaza. He also served as the general design coordinator, supervising the design of the facades (for interaction with structural members) and that of the ETFE cushions and their connections to the truss structure.
He was also the supervisor of the construction site for the Contractor, responsible for providing day-by-day solutions to on-site issues affecting the construction of the structural systems and in charge of the relations with the Owner.
